A program that allows you to import pictures from digital cameras into a photo editing program such as Photoshop, is called Adobe Camera Raw. This application is free and does not require you to buy any other additional software or hardware to use it. Free versions of Adobe Camera Raw are available for Mac OS X operating systems and Windows XP. The application allows you to quickly edit your images without the need to download additional software. To install Adobe Camera Raw, you will need to download and install the software onto your computer's hard drive. On the first page of the application's preferences, you will be asked if you would like to include all of the necessary data files that were stored on your computer. Choose "yes" to this question to install the software. The application will take up less space on your hard drive, and you can delete the data files that were installed during installation of the application. You will also need to ensure that Adobe Camera Raw is the selected application at the bottom left of the desktop. Once you have installed the free version of the application, you will be prompted to select an image to work with. This is commonly the image file on your digital camera, but you may need to locate the application in order to view the file that you selected. If you do not see the desired file, you can select it manually from the location in which the application was downloaded. The application allows you to easily resize or crop a photograph. It can also be used to delete unwanted background details from a photo. You will be prompted to save the image once you have finished cropping or resizing the image.
